How APAiCouncil uses cookies and similar technologies on its website.

This document is a defensively-drafted template prepared for the Applied Policy Artificial Intelligence Council ("APAiCouncil", "the Council", "we", "us", "our"). It reflects accepted international practice as at the effective date above and is intended to support the Council’s compliance posture across India (the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025), the European Union and the United Kingdom (the General Data Protection Regulation and the UK GDPR), the State of California (the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act), and other applicable data-protection regimes. The Council recommends qualified legal review prior to publication. Bracketed placeholders must be completed.

This Cookie Notice ("Notice") explains how Applied Policy Artificial Intelligence Council ("APAiCouncil", "we", "us", "our") uses cookies and similar technologies (together, "Cookies") on www.apaicouncil.org and related digital interfaces (the "Website"). It supplements the Council’s Privacy Policy.

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by your browser when you visit a website. "Similar technologies" include local storage, pixel tags, web beacons, and software development kits that perform analogous functions. Cookies may be "first-party" (set by the Website) or "third-party" (set by another domain through components embedded in the Website). Cookies may be "session" cookies (deleted when you close your browser) or "persistent" cookies (which remain for a defined period or until you delete them).

These Cookies are essential for the operation of the Website. They enable basic functions including security, network management, and accessibility. The Website cannot function properly without these Cookies, and they cannot be switched off. These Cookies do not store any personally identifiable information.

These Cookies allow the Council to count visits and traffic sources so that the Council can measure and improve the performance of the Website. They help the Council understand which pages are the most and least popular and how visitors move around the Website. If you do not allow these Cookies, the Council will not know when you have visited the Website.

These Cookies enable the Website to provide enhanced functionality and personalisation, such as remembering your language preference. They may be set by the Council or by third-party providers whose services have been added to the Website.

The following Cookies are presently in use on the Website:

· Provider: Google LLC ("Google"), a Service Provider engaged under appropriate data-processing terms.

· Purpose: aggregate analysis of Website usage, including pages visited, time on page, traffic sources, device and browser categories.

· Typical Cookies: _ga (used to distinguish users; default duration up to 2 years), _ga_<container-id> (used by Google Analytics 4; default duration up to 2 years), _gid (used to distinguish users; duration 24 hours), _gat (used to throttle request rate; duration 1 minute).

· Data may be transferred to and Processed in the United States and other jurisdictions in which Google operates infrastructure, subject to appropriate safeguards described in the Privacy Policy.

· Opt-out: you may install the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-On available at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, or decline non-essential Cookies through the Council’s consent mechanism.

The Website is hosted on infrastructure provided by GoDaddy.com, LLC ("GoDaddy"). Hosting and security components may place strictly necessary Cookies to support load balancing, session continuity, fraud prevention, and similar functions. These Cookies do not track you across other websites for advertising purposes.

Some pages of the Website may embed content hosted by third parties (for example, video, social media posts, or maps). Such third parties may set Cookies when the embedded content loads. Where the law requires consent for such Cookies, the Council will request it through the consent banner.

On your first visit to the Website (and at intervals thereafter), the Council displays a consent banner that allows you to accept, reject, or selectively manage non-essential Cookies. You may change your preferences at any time through the "Cookie Preferences" link on the Website.

Most browsers allow you to control Cookies through their settings. You may block or delete Cookies, or set your browser to alert you when Cookies are being placed. Please refer to your browser’s help documentation:

· Mozilla Firefox — Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data.

· Apple Safari — Preferences > Privacy.

· Microsoft Edge — Settings > Cookies and site permissions.

Disabling Cookies may impair functionality of the Website. The Council does not warrant that the Services will function as intended where Cookies are disabled.

There is no universally accepted standard for responding to "Do Not Track" signals transmitted by browsers. The Council does not currently respond to such signals but honours opt-out choices made through its consent banner.

The Council may update this Notice from time to time. The Effective Date and Last Updated date at the head of this document indicate when this Notice was most recently revised. Material changes will be communicated through the Website or, where required, by direct communication.
